Absence of Evidence

Lee Scheier was the first journalist to publish a feature story about the injustices related to Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) in a major American newspaper. His in- depth story published in the Chicago Tribune in 2003 led him to spend many years doing further research and interviews for his book, Absence of Evidence

SBS is the only medical diagnosis that automatically comes with a charge of first degree murder. This book will reveal that science has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that it is impossible to shake a baby to death, that a human cannot achieve a high enough level acceleration needed to kill a baby. It has been proven that at the level of acceleration necessary to cause the subdural hematoma found in these babies the neck would be broken. None of the babies who have allegedly died with SBS have had any neck injury at all. All of the babies in question died from a medical condition, disease or from a short fall.

Absence of Evidence will follow Dr. John Plunkett, a pathologist from Minnesota as he slowly begins to ascertain that SBS is a bogus diagnosis. This is a moving and suspenseful book as I tell the story of many of those in jail serving life sentences for a crime they didn’t commit while Dr. Plunkett works to free them. It is a story of the search for truth in science and a story of terrible injustice. Any publisher who publishes this book will have a great influence in freeing many innocent people behind bars.
